Home Plumbing Basics

The basics of a plumbing system are actually pretty simple, once you get a good look at how the various elements work. Basically, it comes down to two pipes connected to your home – one which brings in clean water, and one which takes away waste water and sewage. The pipe connected to your home bringing clean water is pressurized, which is how the water is able to reach upper floors of your home (much like when you were a kid and you stuck your thumb over the end of a garden hose). Water in this pipe arrives cold, so in order to get hot water, it must pass through a hot water heater, whether it uses a boiler system or one of the newer,

more energy-efficient tankless water heating systems..

If you’re trying to decide whether or not you need a plumber to help you out with a plumbing problem, the answer is probably yes – while they are expensive, there are several ways you can undercut this cost.

If you have a plumbing emergency such as a broken pipe, you should immediately find the master shut off valve for your home – this will be located right next to the water meter. Then you can call a plumber to help you repair the damage with out risking any additional damage to your home. The lot was shaped so that any house would have to be really close to ours. Now I am going to build a guest house, a little one with UPVC sash windows. I will report on this project soon.
